Geotech Reports Now Required for KL Projects

PETALING JAYA

A geotechnical report prepared by a certified consultant will now be required for all applications to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for planning permission for construction projects.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Maimunah Sharif said the requirement goes into immediate effect, Bernama reported.

“This requirement applies to applications that have already been approved but for which a development order has not yet been issued, as well as to those currently in process and those yet to be submitted, she said today.

The new requirement comes in the wake of an eight-metre-deep sinkhole in the Masjid India area last week that swallowed up a tourist from India as she was walking in the area.

Her body has yet to be found. Rescue work was called off yesterday after nine days of effort.

Work on repairing the sinkhole area is expected to take three to six months.

Maimunah said the work will involve integrity audits, inspections of the water supply drainage systems by Air Selangor and geological stability studies.

That’s why it will take three to six months as we need a detailed study from the entrance of Kampung Baru to Mydin (in Jalan Masjid India), she added.

Maimunah also advised the public to adhere to instructions and cooperate with DBKL while repairs are being carried out.
